The Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders seeks to appoint a suitably qualified candidate to a full-time, 3-year contract position of Senior Lecturer in the Speech-Language Pathology programme. The successful candidate will contribute to strengthening the Speech-Language Pathology programme and contribute to the Department through academic leadership, research, and the education of undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as providing relevant service delivery. The incumbent will also be expected to maintain their research programme, and to contribute to divisional and departmental activities.

 

Requirements:

 

  • A doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology (completed or submitted for examination)
  • Experience in teaching at an undergraduate level
  • Experience in teaching and research supervision at a postgraduate level
  • Two years of clinical experience in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas of Speech-Language Pathology: school-aged population, language, literacy, speech sound disorders, voice disorders, and/or fluency
  • Registered and in good standing with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Speech-Language therapist/ Speech Language Therapist and Audiologist
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Specific Responsibilities:

 

  • Academic and clinical teaching of undergraduate courses in the Speech-Language Pathology programme and at a Departmental Level
  • Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research
  • Maintain own research programme aligned with and advancing critical approaches to teaching and practice
  • Leadership, administrative and management duties at Divisional and Departmental levels
  • Contribute to socially responsive activities aligned with the University’s vision and mission

The annual cost of employment for this 3-year contract position, including benefits, is between R 795 970 and R 1 147 460
