The Division of Physiotherapy seeks to appoint a suitably qualified candidate to the position of Senior Lecturer; however, it welcomes applications for Lecturer level, with a focus on Paediatrics. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in the strengthening and development of the Physiotherapy Programme through academic leadership, research and education of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The incumbent will also be expected to develop their research interests and contribute to Divisional, Departmental and Faculty activities.

 

 REQUIREMENTS AT SENIOR LECTURER LEVEL:

  • Masters in Physiotherapy or a related field
  • PhD or PhD near completion with a focus on Paediatrics
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Physiotherapist
  • At least five (5) years' work experience in paediatrics in an academic or clinical setting
  • At least five (5) years' experience in teaching and supervising university students
  • Experience in Undergraduate and Postgraduate research supervision, related but not limited to Paediatrics
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications in local or international journals
  • Experience of leadership in administering teaching and research programmes effectively in a higher education institution
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and collaborative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

ADVANTAGES AT SENIOR LECTURER LEVEL:

  • Evidence of scholarship and/ or courses/ diplomas in Paediatrics or Teaching and Learning related fields

  • Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Physiotherapist
  • At least three (3) years' work experience in paediatrics in an academic or clinical setting
  • At least two (2) years' experience in teaching and supervising university students
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and collaborative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

ADVANTAGES AT LECTURER LEVEL:

  • PhD or PhD near completion with a focus on Paediatrics
  • Experience in Undergraduate research supervision, related but not limited to Paediatrics
  • Actively engaged with research and evidence of publications

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AT SENIOR LECTURER /LECTURER LEVEL:

  • Academic teaching across the undergraduate courses in the Physiotherapy programme., with a primary focus on Paediatrics and Development
  • Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects
  • Maintain own research programme to encourage evidence-based practice in both teaching and clinical practice
  • Administrative and management duties at Divisional, Departmental and Faculty levels
  • Participate in socially responsive activities aligned with the university’s vision and mission
