We are seeking to employ an experienced, motivated Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Biokinetics & Physiology within the Department of Human Biology at UCT. This is a permanent full-time post in which the incumbent will primarily be required to teach and conduct research in the clinical and non-clinical fields of Biokinetics, Exercise science and Applied Human Physiology. In addition, this person will also work with existing staff to plan, develop and implement a new four-year professional degree in Biokinetics.
Requirements:
At Lecturer level:
- Biokinetics Degree (NQF8)
- Masters degree in Biokinetics, Exercise Science, Physiology or related field in the Biological Sciences or Health Sciences.
- Current and minimum of three years’ registration as an independent biokineticist with the Health Professions Council (HPCSA).
- Two years’ experience in teaching biokinetics and general physiology.
- A developing track record in research outputs.
- Evidence of having co-supervised postgraduate students
At Senior Lecturer level:
- Biokinetics Degree (NQF8)
- PhD degree in Biokinetics, Exercise Science, Physiology or related field in the Biological Sciences or Health Sciences.
- Current and minimum of three years’ registration as an independent biokineticist with the Health Professions Council (HPCSA).
- Three years’ experience in teaching biokinetics and general physiology to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- A track record of peer-reviewed publications and conference participation.
- Evidence of having applied for research funding to support research activities.
- A record of supervision of postgraduate students (Masters or Doctoral level).
- Experience in management (of staff, research studies and /or laboratories).
Responsibilities:
- Lecture to, lead tutorials/practicals and assess undergraduate Biokinetics, Health and Rehabilitation Science, Medical and Science students, as well Honours and other postgraduate students on topics related to the fields of Biokinetics, Exercise Science and Applied human biology.
- Assist with the planning, curriculum development and implementation of a new 4-year professional degree in Biokinetics.
- Train and supervise postgraduate students in the fields noted above.
- Conceptualize, fund, lead and execute collaborative research studies in the fields noted above.
- Perform teaching- and research-related leadership and management functions at the Divisional, Departmental, Faculty and University level, as required (i.e. convene courses, manage research team, manage funding for research, monitor operational expenses, write progress reports, serve on committees etc).
- Manage Biokinetics laboratory and associated equipment as professional-grade practical teaching and research facility
- Participate in community outreach initiatives such as job shadow, career pathway programmes or educational sessions
- Translate and promote awareness of relevant research in the community for public benefit
