ACADEMIC FACULTY: FULL-TIME (SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR)

The UCT Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB) seeks candidates for full-time positions at the level of Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor across all business school disciplines and related fields in social science (e.g., economics, political science, psychology).
The School has a particular interest in scholars whose academic focus lies in the fields of strategy, finance, marketing, operations (including service operations and/or supply chain management), entrepreneurship & innovation, accounting, digital transformation (including AI) and human resources and people management. We are also seeking candidates whose research or prior experience is focused on or relevant to markets in Africa or other emerging regions. Candidates whose work falls outside traditional management disciplines should be interested in publishing in outlets read by academics at business schools; candidates whose research does not currently focus on Africa and emerging markets must have a clear interest in producing research that is relevant to these areas.

The School is entirely postgraduate, with eight academic programmes (MBA, EMBA, Master of Management, MCom in Development Finance, MPhil in Inclusive Innovation, PGDip in Management Practice, PGDip in Development Finance and PhDs in Business Administration and Development Finance) as well as a large and global executive education practice. All of its programmes and activities have an overarching focus on sustainable development, understanding complex environments and seeking positive social impact. The School also has four world-class specialised research centres, including the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship, the Power Futures Lab, the Allan Gray Centre for Values-Based Leadership and the Development Finance Centre, which bring together faculty, researchers and practitioners with a focus on social innovation, electricity markets, values-based leadership, development and innovative finance, among other topics.
We are looking for academics who will:
- Develop and publish research as well as attract research funding
- Teach graduate-level core and elective courses to students with a variety of professional backgrounds
- Supervise Master’s and PhD students
- Participate in executive education courses offered by the UCT GSB
- Be team players, involved in and committed to the School, University and the wider community
Successful candidates will have:
- A completed doctoral degree
- Demonstrated excellence (or clear potential for excellence) as a teacher, particularly in highly interactive classroom settings
- A track record of publications and success in obtaining research funding (especially for more senior positions)
- Fluency in oral and written English
We prefer candidates with:
- International exposure (academic or professional)
- Industry experience and/or degrees from or previous experience at a business school
- An established network of academics and practitioners
- Research agendas that are relevant to scholars and practitioners
- Experience teaching and facilitating discussions among executives
