The Division of Emergency Medicine is seeking to appoint a Project Manager for the Redesigning Emergency care to Serve Communities (RESCo) project. RESCo is a collaboration between the UCT Division of Emergency Medicine and the Western Cape Government Department of Health and Wellness (WCGHW) to develop community-oriented emergency care in pilot communities using action research to work with community stakeholders to design, implement, and evaluate differentiated models of care (DMOC). The RESCo Project Manager will coordinate community stakeholder activities and ensure the project stays on track.

 

Requirements for the job:

  • Master of Public Health or equivalent graduate qualification
  • 3 years’ demonstrable experience in management of projects
  • 3 years’ experience in implementing community-based health projects
  • Background and demonstrable experience in resource-constricted communities in the Western Cape Province
  • Experience in community engagement and capacity building
  • Ability to work independently and be self-driven
  • Basic understanding of operations of community-health, EMS, and emergency centres
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience within the emergency care field, either in prehospital environment or inhospital (within emergency centres) 
  • A valid South African driver’s license

 

The following will be advantageous:

  • Existing working relationships with Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Emergency and Clinical Services Support (ECSS), and community-based organisations
  • Experience in strategic planning, administration, and oversight
  • HPCSA registration as an emergency care provider (e.g., Basic Ambulance Assistant or Paramedic)

 

Responsibilities:

  • Guide selection and collaboration with pilot RESCo communities and community stakeholders
  • Build connections between communities and RESCo individuals
  • Support, execute, lead, and provide feedback on DMOC design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Hold quarterly meetings for RESCo community sites to share and discuss in- and out-of-hospital progress
  • Communicate between RESCo communities and stakeholders as needed
  • Schedule and prepare semiannual updates to the RESCo steering committee
  • Assist with the analysis and write-up of RESCo communities’ progress
  • Coordination of activities with Healthy Futures South Africa project team
  • Travel to study sites, including George, Saldana Bay and Heideveld

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R639 581 and R752 447.
