We invite applications for a permanent appointment at Lecturer level in the African Institute of Financial Markets and Risk Management (AIFMRM) in the Faculty of Commerce. We strive to appoint educators and researchers with the ambition to be academic leaders and who will be committed to an Institute that views transformation as one of its key responsibilities. Our research is founded on a critical and quantitative approach to the study of financial markets and risk management. AIFMRM is supported by private sector partners from the financial services sector.

 

This position covers a one-year development period during which the successful candidate will be provided with mentoring in order to nurture their academic career. The successful candidate must have completed a Master's degree, and will be required to register for a PhD, if they are not already registered, or if the degree has not already been obtained. The successful candidate will be given a reduced teaching and administrative load for the first year to enable participation in academic development courses and initiatives, and completion of their PhD (if applicable).

 

Requirements for the position:

  • At least a Master’s degree in financial risk management, or a directly related field.
  • A demonstrable ability to produce high-quality research. For candidates with only a Master’s degree, a mark of at least 65% for the Master’s research component.
  • At least one year of experience in tutoring and/or teaching at an undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Registration for a PhD within one year of appointment, if not already registered, or if the degree has not already been obtained.

 

The following would be advantageous:

  • up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends in the field of financial risk management,
  • the ability to function both independently and as part of a team, and
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Remuneration:

Salaries are based on UCT’s standard Cost of Employment (COE) for a Lecturer. AIFMRM academic staff receive a 20% Scarcity Allowance above the standard COE.
