The Department of Computer Science seeks to fill a permanent position at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level.

 

The Department of Computer Science offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Computer Science and has a large cohort of Honours, M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. The Department has existing research specialisations in visual computing, high-performance computing, networking, artificial intelligence (AI) and ICT for development. The department is particularly seeking to fill a post in the area of AI, to support our new major in AI.

 

Requirements of the job at Lecturer level:

  • A PhD degree in Computer Science or a relevant area at the time of appointment. Exceptional candidates with an MSc degree will be considered.

Additional requirements of the job at Senior Lecturer level:

  • A PhD in Computer Science or a relevant area at the time of appointment
  • Significant teaching experience
  • A track record of research publications and postgraduate supervision.
  • Evidence of active contribution to academic administration.

 

Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach both undergraduate and postgraduate Computer Science courses,
  • to carry out research,
  • to contribute to departmental administration and
  • to supervise postgraduate students in Computer Science.

 

The annual remuneration package for 2025, including benefits, is R941 184 for a Lecturer and R1 147 460 for a Senior Lecturer. An allowance for scarce skills may be offered additionally.
