The Department is well established, internationally accredited, and has historically produced some of the country’s most competent mechanical engineers.
The Department of Construction Economics and Management enjoys an international reputation for its activities in the fields of Quantity Surveying, Property Studies, Construction Management, and Project Management. The Department is home to the Urban Real Estate Research Unit and the Sustainability oriented + Cyber research Unit for the Built Environment. The Department is also home to the African Journal of Real Estate Research and the Journal of Construction Business Management. The Department is seeking to appoint a permanent full-time Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Property Development.
Requirements for the position:
For all levels:
- At least a four-year honours (NQF level 8) degree in Property/Real Estate/Economics or cognate discipline.
- At least 5 years industry experience in Property Development post the bachelor’s qualification.
- Knowledge to teach, at undergraduate, honours and masters levels, all aspects of Property Development, including, but not limited to market analysis and feasibility studies.
- Professional registration with a South African statutory council falling under the Council for the Built Environment, or eligibility to do so.
For appointment at Lecturer Level:
- A Master’s degree in Property/Real Estate/Economics or cognate discipline.
For appointment at Senior Lecturer Level:
- A PhD in, or on a topic relevant to, Property/Real Estate/Economics or cognate discipline.
- Previous teaching experience at the tertiary level in Property Development at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- A research publication record in accredited peer-reviewed journals, conferences, chapters in books or books.
The following will be advantageous:
- Demonstrable knowledge to teach urban land/property economics at the undergraduate level.
The successful candidate is expected to:
- Contribute to excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Conduct research, supervise postgraduate students, and publish in refereed journals, and contribute to excellence in research at UCT.
- Participate in the leadership, management and administration of the Department.
- Contribute to the Department’s social responsiveness by engaging with communities and/or industry through teaching and research.
- Register for, and/or complete a PhD, if not already held.
- Register with a South African statutory council falling under the Council for the Built Environment, if not already registered.
- Reside in the greater Cape Town area.
This is a permanent appointment, subject to a successful three-year probation.
