CENTRE FOR HIGHER EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT (CHED

 

The Academic Development Programme (ADP), situated in the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED), works to promote equity of access, effectiveness of teaching and learning and the enhancement of curricula. It has the twin aims of improving student success and ensuring that UCT’s graduates are globally competitive, locally relevant, socially responsive and fully representative of South Africa’s diverse population. The Academic Development Programme (ADP) works in partnership with the Faculty of Science to achieve these goals.

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment as soon as possible, at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, to teach Mathematics courses offered in the Science Faculty and conduct Science Education research, with a focus on Mathematics.

 

REQUIREMENTS AT LECTURER LEVEL:

  • A PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or Mathematics Education at the time of appointment,
  • A proven ability and experience (at least 2 years) in teaching Mathematics at university level.
  • A lecturing track record that demonstrates innovation and reflexive practice.

 

REQUIREMENTS AT SENIOR LECTURER LEVEL:

  • A PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or Mathematics Education at the time of appointment.
  • A proven ability and experience (at least 4 years) in teaching Mathematics at university level.
  • A lecturing track record that demonstrates innovation and reflexive practice.
  • Experience with curriculum development.
  • A research publication track record beyond the PhD.
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision.

 

ADVANTAGEOUS AT LECTURER AND SENIOR LECTURER LEVEL:

  • Experience in educational research or academic development work.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach Mathematics courses offered in the Science Faculty.
  • Contribute to efforts to improve teaching and learning in first-year Mathematics.
  • Undertake research and/or development in the field of Science Education, with a focus on Mathematics.
  • Contribute to course, departmental and faculty administration in both CHED and the Faculty of Science.
  • Where appropriate supervise postgraduate students.
