Position Title: Deputy Dean - Postgraduate Education

The UCT Faculty of Health Sciences is an internationally recognised leader in health sciences teaching, research, and service delivery with more than 5000 (2600 postgraduate) students and 1600 staff. As Deputy Dean: Postgraduate Education and member of the Faculty senior leadership group, you will have the unique opportunity to shape and influence the Postgraduate Education portfolio and, in so doing, the Faculty of Health Sciences at UCT.
We invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons for this full time (or a minimum of 80% part-time commitment), five-year fixed-term contract position (renewable depending on performance). For this post we seek a person of outstanding performance with an excellent understanding of health sciences education and a qualification in one of the health professional sciences or basic sciences. The applicant should also be able to contribute meaningfully to the Faculty’s Transformation Imperative.
Requirements:
- An appropriate doctoral degree or equivalent qualification.
- A proven leader with a minimum of 5 years’ experience at management level.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead people in a values-based approach whilst being able to manage a complex array of internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated experience in graduating postgraduate students (up to PhD level).
- A proven track record and experience in curriculum matters and quality assurance.
- Understanding of and familiarity with the higher education and health sector environment.
- Demonstrable familiarity with the postgraduate funding landscape.
- A proven history of strengthening and developing systems and strategies in the higher education environment.
- Well-reasoned decision-making ability and outstanding skills in verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing diversity, transformation and equity.
- Given the diversity of postgraduate qualifications in the Faculty the incumbent should have experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Advantages:
- Experience in managing student enrolment and promoting student throughput in minimum time.
- Experience in accreditation for professional programmes.
Responsibilities include:
- To lead, manage and provide strategic direction and support for the Postgraduate programmes in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS).
- Oversight of curriculum development, transformation, and quality assurance in all postgraduate programmes.
- Oversight for accreditation and academic planning including recruitment, retention, and throughput strategies for the postgraduate programmes in FHS.
- Facilitate transformation in the postgraduate sector.
- Building relationships and representing the interest of the FHS provincially and nationally.

The appointment is at the level of Associate Professor / full Professor with an annual remuneration package, including benefits, that is dependent on qualifications and experience.
