The Children’s Heart Disease Research Unit (CHDRU) invites suitable candidates to apply for the full-time Communications Manager position. The main purpose of this position is to develop, manage and implement communication and marketing strategies to strengthen the visibility and impact of CHDRU (https://health.uct.ac.za/chdru) and associated technical support NGO, Reach (www.stoprhd.org) , ensuring an effective online presence.
This position will be based at the CHDRU, at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, but work with an international team.
Requirements:
- NQF6 qualification relevant to health science, communications, policy, advocacy or education
- 6 years relevant work experience in strategic and/or research communications
- Experience managing online content (website and social media)
- 3 years’ operating at a senior level within the field
- Ability to successfully multi-task and work in a team
- Demonstrated ability to work across multiple social media platforms
- Ability to communicate technical/health content to a wide audience
- Ability to use a range of digital platforms/applications
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Teams, Power Point and Excel
- Experience with communications software for design and distribution (example: InDesign, Canva, Mailchimp)
- Excellent writing skills, including capacity to summarise and communicate technical/medical writing
- Clarity of expression in speaking and writing, to include communication with people for whom English is a second language
- Strong organisational skills, and capacity to work independently

Responsibilities:
- Developing, editing, and proofreading content relevant to ongoing projects
- Ensuring both the CHDRU and Reach websites have content that is relevant and up to date
- Posting on appropriate social media outlets as appropriate to promote work or opportunities among our networks
- Stakeholder communication and organisation support
- Managing the production of a diverse range of communication products
- Taking the lead in organising media outreach
- Developing and driving the CHDRU and Reach’s social media strategy
- Media liaison and management

The annual cost of employment for 2026, including benefits, is between R661 967 and R778 783.
