We invite applications for this position for appointment from the beginning of January 2025. The successful candidate will proactively lead and manage the department's administrative processes, procedures and operations and lead a dynamic team of administrative staff. The successful incumbent will report to the Head of Department and work closely with the Heads of Divisions, Chairs of Departmental Committees and relevant units in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The Administrative manager will also liaise with university stakeholders as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent (NQF 7).
- 5 years’ relevant academic administration experience in a higher education environment.
- 2 years’ experience in managing staff, including contributing to staff recruitment, with demonstrated leadership skills in a higher education environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of stakeholders.
- The ability to work independently and accurately in a pressurised environment.
- Strong administrative, organisational and planning skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to co-ordinate multiple operations, work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate experience in managing budget and financial administration.
- Ability to establish systems and procedures across the department.
ADVANTAGES:
- A postgraduate qualification in management or leadership.
- Knowledge of UCT policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Management of the overall administration of DHRS.
- Oversee and direct workflow, communications, processes, and procedures for all DHRS administration.
- Daily management of administrative staff.
- Develop effective and efficient administrative processes.
- Review all processes and procedures for continuous improvement of the DHRS service – ensuring that they are fit for purpose.
- Manage the operations in the department including IT requirements, space, assets, health and safety, equipment and maintenance.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is R 491 709 and R 578 479.
