The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning (DVC: T&L) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to take up the position of Portfolio Manager. This position is available for appointment as soon as possible. 

 

The Portfolio Manager provides high-level support and advisory services to the DVC: T&L ensuring effective alignment of processes and structures within the portfolio. As a newly established role, the successful candidate will be instrumental in assisting the DVC in managing the Teaching and Learning portfolio and enhancing its coherence to support the achievement of institutional goals and objectives.

 

Requirements for the position:

  • NQF 9 - Master’s level qualification.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in managing higher education administration or as an academic staff member.
  • Proven experience in monitoring and evaluation.
  • The ability to interpret legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Strong analytical skills with evidence of experience in extracting data, reporting and developing models to inform institutional decision-making.
  • Demonstrable project management experience, including managing multiple, complex projects through to completion.
  • Experience in preparing documentation for a range of stakeholders such as reports, high-level notes and minutes.
  • Experience in strategic planning or the implementation of strategy within a higher education context.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Advantageous:

  • A qualification in higher education studies.
  • Proficiency in management information systems.

 

Responsibilities (Key Performance Areas):

  • Manage the DVC Teaching and Learning Portfolio through the monitoring and evaluation of the key performance areas with the intended outcome that these are consistent with intended teaching and learning strategy.
  • Assist in the development of teaching and learning strategy aligned with the university’s mission and vision, optimising the alignment of the various processes and structures reporting to the DVC.
  • Monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
  • Support the development of strategy and policy development, including conducting institutional research.
  • Manage strategic projects from planning through to implementation.
  • Maintain and enhance stakeholder relations & communication.
  • Servicing of committees.

 

The annual cost of employment, including benefits (where applicable), is between R 1 015 197 and R 1 194 348.
