FACULTY OF HUMANITIES

 

The Centre for Film and Media Studies (CFMS) at the University of Cape Town seeks to fill a permanent academic position at Lecturer level in Media Studies for appointment as soon as possible. CFMS is a vibrant space for teaching and research in the Faculty of Humanities focusing on research, creativity, intellectual engagement, and practical training.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • A PhD in Media Studies / a closely related field (or recently submitted for examination);
  • An emerging research profile;
  • Tertiary teaching experience in Media Studies and/or Cultural Studies;
  • The ability to contribute to curriculum development and scholarship in research methodology, journalism studies, media & technology policy or law, social media research, or data research;
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Commitment to an inclusive and collegial work environment.

 

THE FOLLOWING WILL BE ADVANTAGEOUS:

 

  • Ability to contribute to our multimedia journalism programme;
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision in Media Studies and/or Cultural Studies.
  • Ability to contribute to multilingual teaching strategies.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • The successful candidate will be required to play a major role in curriculum planning, convening, supervision, and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to produce academic research and publish in the relevant areas covered by CFMS.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to perform administrative tasks at departmental and faculty levels.
  • The successful candidate will contribute to the institution’s commitment to socially responsive initiatives.

 

The annual remuneration package, including benefits is R 941 184
