FACULTY HUMANITIES
The Department of Social Work & Social Development at the University of Cape Town is an accredited trainer of social workers through the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree and offers at undergraduate level a social development major. At postgraduate level, we offer an Honours degree in Social Development and Masters degrees in Social Development, Clinical Social Work, and Criminal Justice Social Work. We seek to fill a post of lecturer, who will be involved in training BSW students and other areas in the department (particularly in social work and/or social development).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SASSCP)
- A PhD qualification or PHD currently under examination in Social Work, Social Development or cognate fields
- At least two years’ experience working within a higher education institution:
- Experience in teaching and supervision of social work students
- Experience in the supervision of postgraduate students
- Ability to convene undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses
THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS:
- Experience in teaching quantitative and qualitative research methods
- Knowledge of curriculum design
- Publications in peer reviewed journals
- Proficiency in using learning management systems
- Strong computer literacy skills including proficiency in Microsoft tools
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Research supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Convening undergraduate and postgraduate courses
- Convening undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, where required
- Contributing to department administration
- Developing a research and publications portfolio
- Participating in all departmental Research Ethics and MA/PhD Research Committees
- Contribution to social responsiveness
